Field reports suggest that certain hypersensitive individuals may demonstrate local or generalized reactions, sometimes severe, following exposure to streptococcal proteins. Field studies indicate that postvaccinal exercise will appreciably decrease the incidence and duration of reactions. Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.
Anaphylactoid reactions may occur following use.
Antidote
Epinephrine.
Description
Strepvax® II is a concentrated, aluminum hydroxide - absorbed suspension of purified antigens derived from S. equi cells. Strepvax II contains the antigenic protein of S. equi but is essentially free of the toxic and irritant substances present in whole cell bacterins.
Actions And Uses
Strepvax II has been observed to decrease the incidence and severity of strangles in controlled efficacy studies as well as under field conditions. When its use is combined with good hygiene and the segregation of affected individuals, Strepvax II will help to limit the occurrence of clinical disease and to minimize sequelae.
