1. Killed vaccines can be prepared to administer from one bottle with no mixing required. Modified live vaccines require mixing the dried part (called the dessicant or cake) and the liquid part (called the diluent). Upon receipt of your modified live vaccine, be sure to check the type you have received. Also, confirm the name on the vaccine is what you ordered and the expiration date. After confirming what you received is what you need, follow these mixing directions for best results |

2. Take the bottle of liquid, the diluent, turn it upside down and insert the sterile needle through the rubber stopper into the vial. Pull the syringe plunger back slowly to withdraw the entire contents into the syringe. |
3. Next, take the bottle containing the dried part (the dessicant or cake), hold it at a slight angle and push the syringe plunger to expel all of the diluent (liquid) into the desiccant bottle. |
4. Remove the syringe needle and gently shake the vial for a few seconds until mixed. |
5. Once the contents have been thoroughly mixed, insert the syringe needle back into the mixed vial, withdraw the entire contents into the syringe. Expel any excess air and tap the syringe lightly to remove any air bubbles. |
